Marijuana Deathsquads (feat members of Poliça) - Friday, June 14th at The Drunken Unicorn

is presenting with us:

Marijuana Deathsquads at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, June 14th, 2013.

“Marijuana Deathsquads' party squad morphed from hardcore-inspired noise into a Picked to Click act who brought together an eclectic rotating cast of local musicians and out-of-town guests, creating ear-bending improv/dance grooves that defied listener expectations and spit in the face of easy categorization.” - City Pages

Marijuan Deathsquads feature Ryan Olson, the producer and writer behind both Poliça and Gayngs (among others).

Solid Gold are performing before Marijuana Deathsquads.

So the Portuguese have this saying: saudade, a single word that summarizes an entire state of being, a lingering sense of longing for lost love and sepia-toned snapshots of yesterday. The way Solid Gold sees it, saudade might as well be as the subtitle of their second album: Eat Your Young, a slow-burning set of skittish synths, glassy beats, ripple effect riffs, and melancholic melodies that leave you wondering what left a trail of scar tissue deep within the group’s core trio (frontman Zack Coulter and multi-instrumentalists Matthew Locher and Adam Hurlburt).

Family & Friends - Wednesday, June 12th at The Drunken Unicorn

Family & Friends are performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, June 12th, 2013.

Once upon a time, a young boy and girl happened upon a lonely dandelion in a vast field. The boy plucked the flower and emptied his lungs against it's aged petals. "What did you wish for?" asked the girl. "For 1,000 more wishes." Upon hearing this, Brother Wind took the seeds and spread them about the whole of the field, for 1,000 more boys and girls to one day make 1,000 more wishes.

The Front Bottoms - Saturday, June 1st at The Drunken Unicorn

The Front Bottoms are appearing at The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, June 8th, 2013.

What can we say about The Front Bottoms? We know we love them: a punk band that uses acoustic guitar, indie-rock dance grooves, Springsteen-y keyboard lines (this they might deny). It’s hook-filled… it’s anthemic… it’s confessional. Maybe Joni Mitchell by way of Green Day? They must have heard some Replacements along the way, and it seems like what Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers did for the Boston suburbs these guys are doing for Bergen County, NJ. But they still leave us scratching our heads. Just what the hell have the Front Bottoms alchemized?

The Front Bottoms on Facebook

Weatherbox will be the second performer.

It would be reasonable if you thought Weatherbox imploded some time ago. After all, the San Diego band has cycled through more than a dozen members in its half-decade existence and has kept a relatively low profile since the release of their last LP, 2009's The Cosmic Drama, and subsequent departure from Doghouse Records.

New Terminus are performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, June 7th, 2013.

New Terminus on Facebook

Good Graeff will be performing before New Terminus.

Twins Brooke and Brittany Graeff first formed the acoustic folk pop duo Good Graeff in 2004 in Florida - when they were just 16 years old. In high school, Brooke started writing music, and Good Graeff was unleashed.

The Good Graces are going to be the first performer.

The Good Graces was formed in early 2007 when I picked up a $90 guitar from Atlanta’s late great Lakewood Antiques Market and started fiddling around with some simple chords and melodies. It wasn’t long before those simple chords and melodies turned into catchy, heartfelt indiepop tunes.

OURS Ring The Bell Tour For Their New Record ‘Ballet The Boxer’ at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, May 29th, 2013.

The versatile alternative rock band OURS is a dynamic and urgent outfit that has gained worldwide critical acclaim through band leader/vocalist Jimmy Gnecco’s dynamic voice and songwriting style. After teaming up with the production genius of Rick Rubin for 2008’s release ‘Mercy’ (Columbia/American), OURS finds new ways of creating modern masterpieces by following up with a re-inspired and resurgent self-produced release ‘Ballet the Boxer’ in 2013. The new album builds upon the moody, soulful and epic sound captured on ‘Mercy’, but with a greater sense of urgency that transcends the music’s emotional pitch.

Fiend Without A Face - Saturday, May 25th at The Drunken Unicorn

Fiend Without A Face will be performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Saturday, May 25th, 2013.

Not to be confused with The Slippery Snakes, Fiend Without A Face are a rockabilly-porno-metal band with a little bit of a country twist. A little surf guitar with apple sauce on the side. Their songs sound like Def Lepard hanging out with The Ventures at an Indian wedding. They have been rockin' house parties for almost two decades now, but, word on the street, is that they are about to go legit.

Arum Rae is performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, May 24th, 2013.

Arum Rae, formerly know as White Dress, is a modern day siren. Industry standards cannot harness Arum's sonic expression into a singular genre. Her ability to transcend styles allows the music to complement country, resurrect the soul, feel the blues, and ruin then reinvent rock, through her deeply rooted foundation as a singer-songwriter.

Richard Parsons will be performing first.

If you ask Richard Parsons what kind of music he makes, you’re not going to get a straight answer. Which in his defense is an excusable response when you consider that he has released albums under at least four different band names (in almost as many years), and on all of them he is the sole writer, performer, and producer. The likely answer that you’ll get from that question is “I make music”.

The style of POMPEYA’s music can be described as melodic indie rock with a dash of new wave, 80s pop and chillwave sound thrown in.

Pompeya are from Moscow, Russia.

The Palace Wolves on Facebook

Slowriter will be the first performer of the evening.

It begins with a sound, a simple noise creeping through a headset. Bryan Taylor becomes obsessed with the tone, putting it on a loop. Beats and melodies are pillars on a computer screen, rising and falling, eight and sixteen bar phrases utilized as texture. The pattern emerging is the map to follow, each rhythm a new course to embark on. Before all this there was feedback, and guitars smashed and flung in front of audiences, there was two years of The Chariot.
