Aaron wants a dog, and to not be in school anymore.
Grayson wants you to stop saying he's a little kid, he's not.
Gabe wants some Arden's Gardens.
Thomas wants the big room downstairs, and he's willing to pay for it.
The Levee was birthed out of a need to create. Brandon Funk came to the table with 14 songs with the intention of recording an EP using only local talent out of Atlanta for everything it takes to make an album. After enlisting the help of Kyle Schumacher and Michael Stallings to help record his solo project, the three knew that they had something unique. The EP turned into an LP, and the solo project turned into a band, and after recently solidifying their line up with the addition of Tucker Richmond, The Levee released their debut full length on May 20, 2011.
In August of 2007, brothers Andrew and Dan Callaway found themselves living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the entire family together for the first time since their childhood spent in the English countryside. Along with their father, Liam Callaway, the trio of musicians began writing songs reflective of their Athens, Georgia roots and their fortuitous return to the South.
Capillaries will be celebrating the release of the CD version of "Into The History Of Light" at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, April 11th, 2012.
Capillaries is an instrumental band of four from Atlanta, GA. The music of Capillaries captures a dark history and remains willing to stay behind and investigate it. There are hints of ambience with a sense of immediacy driving it along. Noise and melody become unintended bedfellows. Bass-driven leads and non-traditional rhythms become the substratum for soaring guitars that take listeners to new heights just before pummeling them back into the earth.
Genres do little to describe the sound of Odist. Comprising three passionate musicians, Jason Craig, (bass and samples), Sarah Wilson, (drums), and Parker Newell (guitar). Odist are known for merging genres with captivating albums and energetic live shows.
PacificUV are headlining the Drunken Unicorn on Friday, April 6th, 2012.
One wanted the band to sound like a psychedelic Jesus and Mary Chain tripping on Nyquil, while the other wanted to play one chord for 45 minutes to determine its color.
Calm White Noise are performing before PacificUV and are ALSO celebrating the release of "EP 1"!
Very fresh to the Atlanta music scene is Calm White Noise. The band began to take life in the early months of 2011. Band leader and creator, Dylan Banks, gathered three of the best musicians in the Atlanta area (Ricky Taft, Bill Walker, Andre Griffin) to help turn his visions and ideas into a full functioning entity of marvelous sound waves.
Brett Leggitt or "Deku" is an Atlanta producer who makes loop-based experimental downtempo electronic music. Being very fickle and constantly infatuated with some new sound, instrument, or technique results in the producer covering a wide palette of styles and genres. His self-described "primitive" methods give his music a unique texture and flavor all it's own.
Nervous Curtains are performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, April 5th, 2012.
Introducing the world of Fake Infinity; black space organ and pulverized synthesizers create false euphoria - battle epic/futile with wicked heat. It's no beach party.
Nervous Curtains feature Sean Kirkpatrick of The Paperchase.
AkuYou will be performing before Nervous Curtains.
AkuYou is a project that began with Kim Chee and Clara Clamp. Started in the summer of 2008 with the thought of just putting out as much music as we can. Everything was recorded at home.
Now we are a full live band with Mega , Shane Patrick and Zach Hollback joining in on the fun.
Featureless Ghost's approach to live electronic and vocal performance oscillates between the ecstatic experience and the darker moments on the dancefloor.
Performing and recording music together since 2007, Matt Weiner and Elise Tippins relocated from Brooklyn to Atlanta and spontaneously formed "Featureless Ghost."
Random AKA Mega Ran will be headlining The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012.
RANDOM (a): Unpredictable, Following no particular pattern, deterministic...a system whose evolution cannot be predicted exactly. Random, aka Random Beats, aka Big Ran personifies what Hip-Hop should be: Spontaneous, fun, and true. Every album conveys a different theme, a different vibe and a different emotion.
Welcome to The Random Experience, where You Are the Music.
"High Water Music recording artist, Willie Evans Jr. is the physical manifestation of Hip-Hop and one of the funkiest cats to ever touch a microphone and an MPC. You see, not only will Willie rap circles around your favorite rappers, favorite rapper, he can also craft a beat, so funky that Clyde Stubblefield himself would be proud. The Jacksonville, Florida bred MC/Producer/Visual Artist is at the forefront of a collective of artists that have single handedly managed to put Northeast Florida on the map as a cauldron of Hip-Hop and artistic expression and is now set to show the world that some of the funkiest cats in Hip-Hop call Duval County home." The LaVilla Project
The ThoughtCriminals are hiphop crew & live band that has shared the stage with artists as varied as MC Frontalot, Mr. Dibbs, Adam WarRock, Astronautalis, Ceschi, Random, Dual Core, Prayers for Atheists, AwolOne, and many more.
Ed Schrader's Music Beat is headlining The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, March 28th, 2012.
Ed preformed solo for 3 years traveling the country with his voice and a drum. He was asked to play a rave in Baltimore. Looking to expand his performance, he asked Devlin to join him onstage with his bass. Since then the two have been making rock music of the finest variety, with their sights on the world.
Matt Owen & The Eclectic Tuba is starting the show.
Matt has taken a wide range of classical training and style and technique influences from today's popular musical artists such as Keller Williams, Jason Mraz, The Flaming Lips, and Nat McIntosh and blended them into a smooth, eclectic rock tuba groove. During shows, Matt will loop percussive sounds, tuba bass lines, and grooving synthesizers resulting in a powerhouse jams with ripping tuba solos.
What happens when you take 5 sick ass dubstep dj's, strip them down, rub oil on them, saran wrap them together, and then kick them down the stairs?....................BRAIN
Awesome New Republic (ANR) are returning to The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, March 23rd, 2012.
ANR for short, which stands for Awesome New Republic (ie. a people's movement of astounding proportions). Active since 2004, with a steady amount of releases since, the band is comprised of guys from the northeast who met when they each made Miami their home 10+ years ago.
Plains will be performing before Awesome New Republic.
PLAINS is the brainchild of Michael McGinnis. Born and raised outside of Chicago, McGinnis began making his own music in earnest just a few years ago when he moved to Miami to sleep on couches and work as a studio rat. Spending endless late nights employing a healthy amount of bourbon and cycling through a few albums worth of songs, the album PLAINS was born.
Antbrain plays their brand of rock music with a crooked smile. Audiences can't help but smile back as their ears get gently tickled by the fuzzy guitars, driving basslines and pummeling rhythms. Starting out as a sporadic recording project for guitarist Jiyoung Lee and bassist Dave Bonawits in 2008, the band discovered their true self when they added drummer Josh Hall in mid-2010. Since then they've been winning audiences over with their self described "slop-pop."
Hunter Valentine will be playing a show at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, March 21st, 2012.
Go in, nail 'em and go home exhausted. Such a simple victory has been the mission of rock bands for decades. It's a noble pursuit; a Do It Yourself mentality that compels musicians to obliterate with powerful songs propelled by live passion and vitality.
Jen Urban & The Box will be performing before Hunter Valentine.
Known for incendiary live performance, genre-bending repertoire, and irresistible songwriting, Jen Urban & the Box sets a new standard for contemporary electro-pop. Darlings of the Williamsburg scene, Jen Urban and Alan D unite the pop tour, rock stage, and dance floor with a sophisticated & sexy brand of electronic dance-rock.
Atlanta based Mama Gypsy was founded by friends Trey Hawkins and Dustin Boyer after a few acoustic gigs around the city. Both founders are recent college graduates who have been playing music majority of their lives and intend to pursue careers in the music industry.
"Minneapolis-based group Poliça has been receiving buzz for a couple of reasons: The band’s roster includes two members of Gayngs (vocalist Channy Leaneagh and producer Ryan Olson), Bon Iver’s Mike Noyce threw down vocals on Poliça’s “Wandering Star” and “Lay Your Cards Out,” and Jay-Z liked the latter so much that he premiered it on his Life + Times lifestyle website. When Hova shines a spotlight on you, you know the pressure is on. And the band has responded with a debut album, mixed by Jim Eno from Spoon, of nearly 46 minutes of R&B-infused electro-pop with hammering drums, ethereal vocals, heady bass and supplemental emotional baggage." - Maria Sullivan / CMJ
Body Language are headlining The Basement on Monday, March 19th, 2012.
Busy saving the city from the brick wall arm crossing and the casual head nods, Brooklyn's own Body Language has risen from the DIY venue basements armed with the kinetic dynamite you would expect from the name. Their original music was born from weekly dance party remixes crafted by Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, and graced by the soul stylings of Ms. Angelica Bess.
"Ava Luna is the Brooklyn buzz band that keeps on buzzing and rightfully so because they are pretty damn special. The Coney Island based septuplet (yes, there are indeed 7 of them and no, it’s not a ‘shoot the freak’ kind of thing) embody the phrase “neo soul.” But to give them the ubiquitous they sound like this band meets this band (Dirty Projectors and Jamiroquai) wouldn’t be doing them full justice. With doo-wops and well-rehearsed harmonies, this band seamlessly takes familiar musical worlds into new and exciting places." - Free Williamsburg
"Just try and listen to “Run” from Oxford, U.K., band Jonquil‘s new album and not feel like a champ. Or “Getaway”. Or “Swells”. Or hell, most any song on Point of Go. It’s hard to think of another indie pop record this thoroughly uplifting and bright since Vampire Weekend’s debut. They’re not a new band, but their first handful of releases flew by mostly unnoticed; how the hell have these guys not made a bigger splash in the indie web-o-sphere?" - Consequence Of Sound
The Clap started in August of 2009. We wrote some songs, played a show and realized we didn't really know how to play those songs. Then we practiced a lot and wrote more songs and played more shows and really know how to play our songs now. We was, is and always will be Josh, Mandi, Sam and Tyler.
