Memes are performing on Wednesday, March 14th at The Drunken Unicorn.

Mike sings, plays a guitar and a sampler.
Matt plays some sort of guitar, and some other things, and sings sometimes.
Rene plays the hell out of some drums.

Daymoths will be performing before Memes.

Daymoths is a two-piece pop-rock ensemble from the Twin Cities, Minnesota featuring Emily Dantuma on piano/organs and vocals and Ollie Dodge on drum kit and vocals.

This most recent endeavor in their careers has brought them to a stripped down, spacious sound. It is easy on the ears, but still carries hints of the edgy, experimental perspectives these two have become known for in larger bands throughout the past decade as members of Vox Vermillion, Company Inc., and Mr. Mustachio.

Sentimental, but not overly fluffed or cheesed out, solid groovable beats hold down driving piano riffs and meaty organ tones while Dantuma’s sweet serenade becomes a sirens wail at just the right moment.

Pink Pompeii are starting the show.

Pink Pompeii was a song about spilling pink paint on ants.
That song was written by cellist/vocalist Nan Kemberling when she was in the acoustic duo “Da Dum” with guitarist/vocalist Rob Gal.

During the time that Pink Pompeii was a song, Rob Gal was also in the band, “The Holland Dutch,” with guitarist/vocalist Courtney King and Nan went on an orchestral tour in China. When Nan came back, she and Rob wanted to change Da Dum from an acoustic duo to an electronic dance rock trio, as is often the case in similar situations. They asked Courtney to join them in this endeavor and she consented. It was at that time the three decided to multi-purpose the name Pink Pompeii to include their new ensemble as well the established song title.

Nan’s songwriting has not been limited to the song Pink Pompeii, in fact she is a prolific songwriter. Courtney never lets the fact that she didn’t write Pink Pompeii slow her down for even a moment. She too incessantly puts the pen to paper and between her and Ms. Kemberling, the music spews like hot lava from the very mouth of Mount Vesuvius.

Mr. Gal’s role in all this is that of instrumentalist and co-arranger. After all, he has been a producer, engineer and musician for decades.

Above all, each Pink Pompeiilian is a born entertainer determined to “bring it” to the people at every chance. The band is well groomed in every sense of the word and proud of it!

Jennifer O'Connor is headlining The Five Spot on Monday, March 12th

Jennifer O'Connor is performing at The Five Spot on Monday, March 12th, 2012.

Jennifer O’Connor’s fifth album, I Want What You Want, almost didn’t get made.

After parting ways with Matador Records in the spring of 2009 after two albums (“Over The Mountain, Across The Valley, and Back to the Stars” in 2006, and “Here With Me” in 2008), O’Connor was discouraged, broke and exhausted from several years of non-stop touring. She put music on the back burner and worked a series of odd jobs: bartender on Broadway, freelance writer, transcriptionist, personal assistant, eBay seller, etc. Occasionally she would pick up her guitar and write a song about the confusing place she found herself in.

“I’ve always written about my life and the people close to me,” O’Connor said. “During the years I wrote this album, I was struggling and doing a lot of questioning about where I was and where I wanted to go moving forward. For a while, I wasn’t really sure if I would keep playing music.”

Jennifer O'Connor on Facebook

Tim Foljahn of Two Dollar Guitar will be performing a set before Jennifer O'Connor and WILL be performing with Jennifer O'Connor during her set.

Tim Foljahn is a Michigan-born, New York-based singer-songwriter/guitarist who has more than likely played on one of your favorite records.

Some highlights from the tip of his iceberg-sized resume: He was the guitarist on the first two Cat Power records. He toured with and worked on the final Townes Van Zandt recordings. He lent his guitar skills to Half Japanese as well as the Boredoms. He played on the fantastic Thurston Moore solo record Psychic Hearts.

All the while, Foljahn released a series of his own brooding and lovely song cycles and experimental recordings under the moniker Two Dollar Guitar. With Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley on drums and a revolving cast of band and tour mates, including Smokey Hormel, Chris Brokaw and Christina Rosenvinge, the group released six albums on Shelley’s Smells Like Records label.

is presenting with us:

Tennis at The Earl on Saturday, March 10th, 2012.

Tennis is an American indie pop band from Denver made up of husband-and-wife duo Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. During first tour James Barone joined the band on drums. The couple met each other while studying philosophy in college. They started the band after they got back from a 7 month sailing expedition down the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard. They took their name from a joke about Patrick Riley playing tennis in college.

Hospitality will be performing before Tennis.

The angular, intricate, and intelligent compositions of Hospitality signal a sophisticated new pop voice. Singer Amber Papini’s idiosyncratic songwriting and incisive lyrics coupled with the band’s rich arrangements on its self-titled debut explore youth, New York, and the bittersweet commingling of past and present in a way that feels just right, right now.

Lucy Dreams are performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, March 9th

Lucy Dreams are headlining The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, March 9th, 2012

"Lucy Dreams' debut full-length, Vivian, finds the group of mostly recent high school grads worshipping the glitch birthed in the broken tape machines, reverb and tremolo that made My Bloody Valentine's Loveless a classic album. With songs such as "Blue Depths," "VHS" and "Death March," the burgeoning Atlanta five-piece combines strong melodies with swirling textures of noise, culminating in a wash of dream-pop excellence that soars far beyond the band's age. A genuine sense of woozy fascination takes hold of the album's true masterpiece, "Realize/Out," which stacks layers of voluptuous, ethereal sounds in a tangled mass of wasted bliss. As captivating as it may be, there's an underlying sense that the group is still seeking its footing. But that's not a problem — not when the group shows off such evocative songwriting, imagination and epic potential with its first offering." - Creative Loafing Atlanta

"Right down to its title, No One Loves You Like I Do, the latest offering from Kansas City-based The Life And Times walks the line between old romantic cliché and dark, disturbing undercurrents. For instance, this is an album that comes directly from a place where “I Love You” is not just a promise, but also a threat and a desperate, breathless plea. Loves takes the narrative route, with each “chapter” marked by different days in a 12-day period." - Ryan Simmons / Pop Stache

Wild Child will be performing at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, March 1st, 2012.

"I’ll confidently go out on a limb and say that Pillow Talk may very well be named one of 2011's “Best Of” albums. The vocals and harmonies are flawless and gorgeous, the strings are ridiculously catchy and dazzling, the keys add a brilliant substance, and the drums do a fine job at guiding each song (and your feet). This 15-track album is one of anthemic proportions; it's impossible to not sing along. After all is said and done, Wild Child's talent is undeniable." - Indie Shuffle

Damon Moon & The Whispering Drifters are celebrating the release "Lungs, Dirt & Dreams" at The Basement on Saturday, February 25th, 2012.

Surrounded by an ever-changing cast of musicians that make up The Whispering Drifters, it is apparent that Damon Moon is not afraid of change. This shows up in his songwriting just as much as it has in his touring lineups in the past 3+ years.

Most of Moon's songs up until this point have shared rather dark themes, and seemingly have been about a feeling of restlessness, maybe the finding of a home, or at least the pursuit of one.

The Hotels formed in late 2005, in the now-infamous concrete studios in northeast Atlanta. After several different lineups and no other permanent members other than Watson during the six run, middle 2011 saw a group of musicians come together to form the Hotels for both live and recording purposes. Joe Oliver (of Good Moods and Highlander fame), Chandler Kelley and Rush Myers (both of Goldilocks fame) joined Watson in the Hotels. Both Oliver and Kelley have not only played in the Hotels previously, but both with production credits of Hotels albums to their names.
