is presenting:

Geographer who will be appearing at The Drunken Unicorn on Thursday, November 14th, 2013.

With the overwhelming response to the release of ‘Kites’ and ‘Animal Shapes’, punctuated by a dynamic and engaging live set, San Francisco's Geographer has already begun to make an indelible mark on the ears of music fans worldwide.

Royal Bangs are performing before Geographer.

Royal Bangs has always been a band going in two directions at once. Over the course of three full-lengths, the Knoxville, Tennessee band has kept pace with the indie rock vanguard, maturing through leftfield guitar pop and MIDI dancefloor theatrics to 2011’s freedom-prog fuzzfest FLUX OUTSIDE, which found the band pared down to its creative core of Ryan Schaefer, Chris Rusk, and Sam Stratton.

Small Black - Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 at The Drunken Unicorn

Small Black will be appearing at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, November 13th, 2013.

Formed at the tail-end of 2008 as a bedroom recording project, Small Black first made waves with their eponymous debut EP. Recorded in the attic of singer Josh’s uncle’s remote Long Island beach-house/surfboard workshop, it served as an ideal introduction to the group with its pulsing patchwork synths and addictive, stay-gold hooks that seemed to unfurl themselves gradually over repeated listens.

Five Knives - Friday, November 8th, 2013 at The Drunken Unicorn

Five Knives are coming to The Drunken Unicorn on Friday, November 8th, 2013.

Five Knives started in the underground basement party scene in Nashville. Or, was it the story that they met at a club while traveling in Europe? So much mystery surrounds this band that it has become a moot point really. What does matter, is that they churn out bombastic dark electronic tunes that stir up emotion and make you never want to leave the dance floor.

Braids - Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at The Drunken Unicorn

Braids will be appearing at The Drunken Unicorn on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013.

Braids, the Canadian experimental pop group who released Native Speaker in 2011, have reinvented themselves in the making of their second full length, "Flourish // Perish". After 18 months of touring in support of their debut, along with the departure of a band member, the group secluded themselves in their Montreal studio for a year of writing and recording. While Native Speaker was written in an organic and live environment, the group sought to explore a more introspective and electronic approach to songwriting. Sonically, the songs from these sessions are delicate and tight, yet thoughtfully open up to the rich lushness reminiscent of their older material. Lyrically they are honest and vulnerable, demonstrating the group’s emotional growth and maturity since their last record.

Hundred Waters are appearing before Braids.

Hundred Waters was woven together under the spell of a viscous Floridian summer, from a home on its own in the woods amidst a city. The music sets sail into ancient seas, subtly shifting through worlds of howling silence, borealic tales, and briarpatched exotica, ultimately arriving into the arms of a caring embrace.

Girl In A Coma - Tuesday, November 5th, 2013 at The Drunken Unicorn

Girl In A Coma will be appearing at The Drunken Unicorn on Tuesday, November 5th, 2013.

Girl in a Coma, hailing from the Lone Star State, formed when best friends Jenn Alva and Phanie Diaz met in Jr-high school art class over a mutual love of the Smiths, Nirvana, and skipping school. All they needed was a singer. Enter Nina Diaz, Phanie’s then 12-year old little sister. Nina blew them away with her mesmerizing vocals, a powerful voice some critics have compared to Bjork, Patsy Cline, and the band’s hero, Morrissey himself. The trio practiced for three years, gigged at local punk rock clubs, played a High School talent show, one kid’s birthday party, and then hit the road, building up a solid and loyal fan base across the country.

Cellular Chaos - Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 at Eyedrum

Cellular Chaos are performing at Eyedrum on Sunday, November 3rd, 2013.

Their incendiary live peformances, manic musicianship and futuristically left-of-center songwriting are beginning to garner this group a singular reputation within the contemporary underground music scene. This quartet is the sum of four seemingly disparate parts: Singer and lyricist Admiral Grey possesses a clarion voice which cuts straight through the density of the group s onslaught, delivering her bizarre, hallucinatory visions with animation and articulation. Her chameleonic stage presence and kamikaze physical outbursts make her a riviting focal point in the unit. Weasel Walter has been called . . . a strong and incisive guitarist who has amalgamated such diverse interests as Robert Quine, Blixa Bargeld, Keiji Haino, and Rudolph Grey into a singular and toothy approach by Tiny Mix Tapes and his six-string slaughter with Cellular Chaos will not disappoint anyone looking for sonic blood. On this album, Ceci Moss (now replaced by Kelly Moran) brings a cultivated primitivity on bass guitar, summoning a minimalist foundation of sedimental fuzz bass riffing, interspersed with savage, atonal skronk. Drummer Marc Edwards brings many decades of diverse experience into the mix, furiously slamming away, alternately with bludgeoning crudity and weighty jazz finesse. The net effect is a high-pressure torrent of emotion, exploding with desperation and lashing out at the listener with white-knuckled accuracy and neckcracking momentum. CELLULAR CHAOS was formed in New York City in 2009.

Rock & Soul is a step outside the world of Rock & Roll. It introduces our sound, which many today identify as Soul Infused Alternative Rock. The “Soul” element is essentially the spirit, emotion, and conviction that we as a band strive to recapture in Rock music. It can also be loosely considered the actual sound of the band as most of our fans have recognized us a Rock band with vocals reminiscent of R&B/Soul.

The Coathangers are performing before Guitar Wolf.

The Coathangers were a band before they were musicians. The Atlanta quartet started out as an excuse to hang out and play parties. Their jokey attitude ran deep, right down to their name--a self-admittedly crude abortion reference for an all-girl group. The whole knowing-how-to-play-an-instrument thing was just a minor hurdle in their musical mission. And to their credit, The Coathangers stormed onto the scene, regardless of the handicap, as a completely unaffected, unpretentious, deliciously sloppy, and totally infectious rock band. What they lacked in formal training they made up for in an innate understanding of how to craft a hook and propel a song forward on sheer charisma. It was impossible not to like them.
